Education Centre

$25 per session. Bookings essential. Book one day or all four.

Join artist Stefan Roberts for a playful introduction to pinhole photography. This series of hands-on workshops explores a different creative theme each session while building core practical skills.

Participants will learn how to make and use a pinhole camera, and create their own photographs using black-and-white darkroom paper. Embrace experimentation, celebrate imperfections and discover a little photographic magic along the way. No prior experience is required, and all materials are provided.

Stefan Roberts is an artist and educator based in Ōtautahi Christchurch. He has been exhibiting his photographic work for over twenty-five years and is represented by PG gallery192. Examples of his practice can be viewed at www.stefanroberts.co.nz. Passionate about sharing knowledge, Stefan also teaches in the Bachelor of Design programme at Ara Institute of Canterbury.

Week 1: Cityscapes
Week 2: People
Week 3: Still life
Week 4: Abstraction

Each week will be themed and expert instruction will be given in pinhole camera theory, construction of a pinhole camera, technical direction in photography and dark-room processing, with three photoshoots per session.
