Gallery Trust Gala Fundraiser
As most of you will know, the Gallery is ten years old this year, and while we celebrated in outrageous magenta form with our Populate! programme in May for the real birthday, the Gallery's Trust thought they'd raise the celebrations to an even greater height with a gala fundraiser like no other...

The Future is Me
That deep colour of green, splayed out over the land as far as the eye can see, is dancing in the wind against a backdrop of blue and white. That beauty is mesmerizing, until you notice the ugly grey mass in the distance, its long cooling towers spewing out cloud-clad creations. It may not look all that bad to a passer-by or someone with no sense of nature's purity, but I know exactly how disgusting that sight is.

I had arrived at the train station roughly an hour and a half early. It was a frosty morning and my hands felt like ice blocks. I had that nervous gut feeling again. I peered at my army uniform and pressed down the creases, war was certainly not wanted on my agenda today.

With the removal of the final cordon around the red zone in the central city last weekend, I came in with my family to have a look around the newly reopened areas of the CBD. We stopped to watch the parade of soldiers who were being thanked by the Prime Minister, the Mayor of Christchurch and Kaiwhakahaere of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu for their work in controlling the central city red zone and with community welfare in the immediate aftermath of the February earthquake.
