For the past 11 months we've displayed a large scale copy of the Dick Frizzell work Contacts on the rear wall of the Centre of Contemporary Art next door to the gallery.

Back in 1986, when exhibition crates arrived, not only did they have to be manhandled through the front-door, but the Director himself got up on the back of the truck and supervised the operation.

OK, so yesterday we heard about ""sound art"", today let's record the birthday of Richard Wagner, the world's greatest composer of opera, in 1813. Happy 201st.

Strips Club
University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts 4th year Design students are launching their new journal 'Strips Club' tomorrow night (15th May) at the Dark Room - well worth the effort if you can make it down.

first printing presses in Canterbury
If you are interested in cast iron printing presses, early Canterbury history or just at a loose end at mid-day tomorrow our curator Peter Vangioni is delivering a talk titled 'A Thousand Pities: being a history of the first printing presses in Canterbury' to the Friends of the Christchurch City Libraries... Fendalton Library at 12.30pm.

School's back
You may have noticed this week that traffic is bad again – that means term two has begun! As usual we have a busy education programme planned. Since the opening of Burster Flipper Wobbler Dripper Spinner Stacker Shaker Maker, school groups have been taking guided tours and lessons at ArtBox.
