With over 100,000 visitors, Ron Mueck is now the most popular paid-entry exhibition by a living artist ever held in New Zealand. The show draws to a close on Sunday 23 January, and to ensure that you don't miss out we are holding a number of special late-night viewings.

Keeping cool
It's forecast to be a long, hot summer this year. To help you keep cool, we'll be making some important improvements to the Gallery's air conditioning system later this month. And to try to help us all stay cool we'll be utilising a more sustainable energy source.

Right now, visitors to the Gallery have an excellent opportunity to view three key paintings by Petrus van der Velden in the current Brought To Light hang, and all without even having to take a single step.

We're celebrating the new year and the runaway success of Ron Mueck by giving families the opportunity to take two children to see the exhibition for free during January.

From the director
I cannot imagine a more challenging or topsy-turvy year than the one we've just had (well, maybe last year). But when I think of the impact on this city of the 4 September Canterbury earthquake, I am so pleased we were able to steer the final quarter of the Gallery's exhibitions programme to the public domain in its entirety. We have a fantastic and committed staff and my end-of-year thanks go to all of them.

A clear view
There's a lot of glass in the Gallery foyer – 2184 panes of it to be precise. It's part of what makes the foyer the impressive space that it is.
