Legendary composer, producer and performer J.G. Thirlwell will be at the Gallery for a one-off special performance, the only South Island stop on his first ever New Zealand tour.

The Australian artist, with a career spanning over three decades has been known by pseudonyms such as Foetus, Steroid Maximus, Manorexia, Wiseblood and Clint Ruin. After working with experimental group Nurse With Wound, Thirlwell started making his own records in 1980, with work spanning orchestrations, big band, cathartic noise-rock to abstract electronics and sound sculpture, chamber music, serial music and imaginary soundtracks characterised by their dramatic intensity and evocative, cinematic quality. He has worked with a diverse range of artists like Nick Cave, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Zola Jesus and Swans and is also responsible for the score behind award winning adult cartoon series Venture Bros. The Yealands Cash Bar will be open during his performance.
