Uncomfortable Silence

This exhibition is now closed

Fresh work by early career New Zealand artists that is both enigmatic and unsettling.

This exhibition brought together work by artists who intentionally place the audience in an uncomfortable position, and ask the viewer to engage with the inexplicable and problematic. Curated by Holly Best as part of our emerging artist series, Uncomfortable Silence included the work of Clare Logan, Johanna Mechen, Ammon Ngakuru, Jayden Plank, Meg Porteous, Elisabeth Pointon, Shiraz Sadikeen and Mark Schroder. The exhibition considered how we look, and why that can leave us vulnerable, whilst also critiquing what it is to make and exhibit work within the institution of a public art gallery.
