Christina Read, an Auckland-based artist originally from the UK, is the 2016 recipient of the Olivia Spencer Bower Foundation Art Award.

Christina graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts with an MFA in 2007. Her practice is an investigation of the personal and unorthodox relationships
between language and object, text and image. She is interested in the everyday as a place for acting-out the desultory humour of the ordinary – that which is sad and comic, pathetic but somehow appealing.

Recent projects include: The Brain, Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery, Auckland (2015); a curatorial project commissioned by CIRCUIT Artist Film and Video Aotearoa; Sense and Nonsense: A Festival of Absurdism, Centrum Berlin (2014); and Correspondences, Boxcopy, Brisbane (2014).

Please note:  The Philip Carter Family Auditorium is being renovated during July and August. This talk will be presented at South Library, 66 Colombo Street. No bookings required.
