After decades of struggle, intensified during the 1895 War of Independence, the Cuban Liberation Army, while exhausted, had almost achieved autonomy from Spanish colonial rule. Simon and Samuel are two Cuban kids who will experience the defeat of the Spanish Army and the ensuing US occupation of their country in 1898, which frustrated the national desire of independence, as an intense period of their lives.
