The Photographer’s Eye

28 September –
15 October 1967

This exhibition of one hundred and fifty photographs (of which only one was in colour) was originally assembled for the Museum of Modern Art, New York as one of nine shows which inaugurated the new galleries and sculpture garden of the museum.

The works of one hundred photographers were taken from public and private collections from all around the world. They ranged from daguerreotypes by 19th century masters to recent pictures by young photographers of the day. Historical, technical and general topics were recorded form the American Civil War to skyscrapers, from Joe McCarthy to John F. Kennedy.

This was the first photographic exhibition held at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery.

The exhibition was sponsored in New Zealand by the Auckland Art Gallery, the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, Eve Magazine, Kodak (Wellington), T. A. McAllister and Agfa Gevaert Ltd.
