Drawings by William Blake of Thomas Gray's poems were reproduced by Trianon Press in Paris from original water colour paintings of the Paul Mellon collection and exhibited in the Tate Gallery in 1971-72. These 116 hand coloured facsimile illustrations were exhibited together with portraits of Blake and Gray.
A national tour was organised by the National Art Gallery for the British Council.
Poetry readings of Gray and Blake were organised By Dr Kirsty Cochrane and produced by Raymond Hawthorne. They were read by the Arts Festival cast of Tartuffe.
The response from the general public and school groups was very rewarding as well as the interest shown by the news media. 7,099 people attended the exhibition.
