This was an exhibition of various art forms of Christchurch and Canterbury which was sent to Kurashiki, our sister city In Japan.
The main theme of the exhibition was wool and its uses. There were 16 examples of woven wall hangings, designed and woven by Canterbury weavers including Vivienne Mountford, Judith Pollard, Sue Turner, and Marianne van der Lingen.
Pottery was represented by artists Michael Trumic, David Brokenshire and others.
There were also a number of pieces of craftwork such as woodcarving, jewellery and cane work.
Approximately 30 reproductions of major early New Zealand paintings were included and were presented to Kurashiki city at the conclusion of the exhibition. Original paintings and sculptures were not included on this occasion but the intention was to exchange exhibitions of this nature in the future.
