Artist Priscilla Cowie (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Kahu) will discuss the theme of tuna (eels) flowing through her own works and the interconnected nature of our waters and tuna within Māori culture.
Cowie has been involved in several of the new projects in post-earthquake Christchurch, bringing Ngāi Tahu narratives to life visually. From sculptures at King Edward Barracks to the story arc at Tākaro ā Poi, Margaret Mahy Family Playground, she acknowledges connections with land, people and cultures. Priscilla will also discuss her art practice which includes sculpture, painting and design.
Priscilla is a graduate of the University of Canterbury, School of Fine Arts. She has extended her art practice by attending Wānanga Toi (art workshops) with other Maori and Indigenous artists.
Currently Priscilla is a new, Te Waipounamu committee member of Te Ātinga - Māori Contemporary Visual Artists.
