Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) initiated the ArtBox project in response to the loss of studio and gallery space in Christchurch following the earthquakes in 2011.
In total four small buildings are scheduled to be built on the corner of Madras and St Asaph streets, creating two galleries and six studios. With the revitalisation of the central city underway, it's an important time to support the return of the arts and art audiences to the city's heart—the creative industries are vital ingredients in a vibrant, dynamic community. The galleries are being completed now and the remaining pavilions are scheduled for installation throughout 2013.
Martin Trusttum is stakeholder manager for creative industries at CPIT. He links students with a range of industries on projects that require creative industries solutions. He will talk about the genesis of the ArtBox project, the process of developing the concept and plans for the future.
