Join artists Judy Darragh and Sean Kerr in conversation about their project In Kahoots, a real-time 3D art work.
A real song and dance, they say, that involves mirrors, three video projections, AI and randomising technology, auto-spoken text generation, characters and a dance routine to build a constantly changing and immersive installation. Come to the Gallery for an ear and eye-full.
A philosophically aware yet devilishly cheeky party run amok.
"In Kahoots draws on Plato’s allegory of the cave to locate a shared meditation on collective resistance, transformation and ecstatic revolution. The artists invoke myth as a means of navigating a contemporary fray and as a method for making sensible the dynamic, circular and present tenses of time." (Two Rooms, 2019)

Judy Darragh Cats and Dogs
Since the 1970s, Judy Darragh has explored the tensions between high and low art, and the difference between what is tasteful or tacky. In the early 2000s, she turned her focus to the cheap plastic ware that had become ubiquitous in New Zealand. “Where once there was a second-hand shop, there is now a two-dollar shop – the 2-minute high from the $2.00 spend.” Here, that overwhelming artificial deluge is paralleled by another – a quivering shower of fluorescent objects raining down ‘like cats and dogs’.
