In 2016, Christchurch-based artist Janna van Hasselt participated in SCAPE Public Art and was a finalist in the Portage Ceramic Awards at Te Uru in Titirangi.
Janna embarked on a MFA specialising in ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Fulbright Graduate Award in 2012. Through an art history course entitled Better Homes and Gardens, she studied a series of environments created by artists working outside the mainstream. She received a Rhodes Scholarship to further her studies, and visited six sites in the US and France during the spring of 2014. Janna will give a brief background on these
sites and discuss how they have influenced her own art practice.
