Friends' trips explore art in and out of the Christchurch environment, and are an opportunity to meet with other Friends over a two or three day programme.

This year, with the support of Friends of Te Papa, we plan to visit Wellington from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 May. Plans are evolving as we identify what will be of interest at the time, but following last year's Dunedin trip, a medley of art events and social occasions is envisaged, from Friday afternoon through to Sunday morning.

From the rich variety of art and cultural offerings in Wellington we hope to include behind-the-scenes views from curators at Te Papa, a tour of dealer galleries and visits to City Gallery and Pataka. On the social side we plan a dinner together on Friday night and social gathering at the Museum Hotel on Saturday, where we can take in Chris Parkin's dramatic contemporary collection. We also expect to meet with counterparts from Friends at Te Papa.

Expression of interest are now invited—get in quickly as numbers are limited.

Please contact the Friends office on (03) 941 7356 or email Hannah at friends@ccc.govt.nz. Those who indicate interest in the trip will be kept informed as plans develop, and will be invited to offer suggestions.

Important: travel to Wellington and accommodation is the responsibility of each person. As a possible extra, the New Zealand Opera’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella) is at the St James Theatre from 9-16 May. This opera is not coming to Christchurch.
