Join with other Friends for a day of art, history, and a wonderful, whimsical garden.

The Giant's House, built in 1880 is one of Akaroa's hidden treasures. The house, owned by artist Josie Martin, is decorated in the French style and includes a contemporary art gallery designed by Sir Miles Warren. The garden is full of sculptures, mosaics and colourful plantings of flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. We will tour the house and gallery and have lunch in the garden.

Note: The house is up a steep drive, unsuitable for wheelchairs.

After lunch, we visit the Akaroa Museum, have a guided introduction, watch a DVD on the history of the area and browse the exhibits.

The trip will run from 9am to 5pm and includes bus, lunch and entry to house, garden, gallery and museum.
