For the exhibition 'Nature's Own Voice' 6 February - August 2009 this work was displayed with the following label:

Nugent Welch was a well known and respected plein-air artist in Wellington. He was a central member of the group of artists who stayed at Pumpkin Cottage at Silverstream in the Hutt Valley, and visited the cottage regularly to paint. Established by James Nairn, Pumpkin Cottage was ideally suited to Wellington artists as it was easily accessible from the city and provided the perfect rural location for their plein-air paintings.
