Bequests and Donations

Bequests and Donations

Leaving a bequest to Christchurch Art Gallery in your will is a gift to the city and an inspiration to future generations.
Giving art to the Gallery
Many works of art in the Gallery’s collection are gifts from generous people. We’re always delighted to consider gifts of art. If you are thinking of giving art to the Gallery please contact us to discuss its place in the collection.
Donations and bequests to the Gallery
Donations and bequests to the Gallery are received by the Gallery’s Foundation. The Foundation manages an endowment fund to help the Gallery build its art collection. This fund has become even more important to the Gallery in recent years, as the demands placed on public funds by the earthquakes have meant that our collecting budget has been reduced. You may choose to join the Foundation as a TOGETHER partner, or give a bequest. If you would like to talk to us about a bequest, a gift or a special donation to the Gallery please contact Blair Jackson on bequest@christchurchartgallery.org.nz.

I jumped at the opportunity to join the Foundation in October 2014 when I heard about the plan to purchase five great works. The Gallery has fantastic vision and is in great hands right now. One of my favourite artworks in Christchurch is Martin Creed’s Work No. 2314 which tells us everything is going to be alright. I like the simple message in dazzling lights. For me it symbolises the pretence I showed, for the sake of my kids, that the earthquakes were nothing to worry about. I have my parents to thank for surrounding me with good New Zealand art and making it part of the everyday conversation – the disagreements were part of the fun.
