The fifth film in the Christchurch iteration of the Eighteenth Latin America and Spain Film Festival, Why Do My Friends Cry? is a Cuban drama about four female friends who meet for the first time in twenty years.
The recounting of their lives creates future challenges to face together. It is a film to spark laughter, tears and reflections on diversity, friendship and honesty. It portrays the challenges women face in Cuban society today, one of which is how to address the myriad demands of friends and loved ones. (2017, 81 mins.)
