Hello Summer! Family Fun Day
Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū
Welcome in the summer with a fun-filled day of entertainment and activities for everyone.
At 11am Hagley Community College’s fabulous waiata rōpū will perform song, action and harmony in the foyer.
Levity Beet will deliver his quirky and dynamic singer and songwriter for children. Three times Apra Children’s Musician of the Year Award, Mr Beet is well known for his dynamic and humorous performances – and weird custom instruments! Performances 11.30am and 1.30pm.
Join in making beautiful lei to wear with Ōtautahi artist Nina Oberg Humphries, this year’s University of Canterbury’s MacMillan Brown Pacific Artist in Residence. Feast on materials and be guided by this artist’s great Kuki Airani styles.
Simon Kong is joined by Byllie Jean and other musical friends for a session of musical musing and moments of discovery. A long time journeyman of New Zealand dance floors, Simon mixes moods, feelings and memories of long lost parties with sunny days and hopefulness for all tomorrows plans. Performances throughout the day.
Try your hand at spin art with oil painting artist Andrew Price.
Make a Fold-a Dog from soft material to take home.
Help artist Della Rees to finish the wool embroidery she started at the Big Draw in October.
All materials are provided, and no experience or bookings are necessary for our workshops.
There will be guided tours of exhibitions at 11am and 2pm – join in the conversation with our imaginative, well-informed and friendly guides.
Curator Ken Hall will give a fascinating floor-talk in the exhibition As Time Unfolds. This show is a fascinating gathering of works from our collection from Ancient Greece and Rome, through the baroque and renaissance periods, and into the contemporary. He will be joined by Ōtautahi arti Helen Calder – join in the conversation at 3pm in the gallery.
All events and activities are entirely free. See you there!
