The Physics Room, in collaboration with Te Puna o Waiwhetū Christchurch Art Gallery, presents a programme of readings, screening and discussion on the work of Irish-American author Fanny Howe (1940–2025).

Best known as a prolific poet and novelist, Howe’s writing explores the complexities of contemporary existence, often turning to theology, philosophy and political theory as tools with which to explore faith, love, ethics, memory and violence. Howe’s short films likewise use fractured, associative forms to trace entanglements of artistic, spiritual and political concerns. This programme presents an introduction to Howe’s life and work, readings, and screens her “hand-made, home-made” films in collaboration with Terrassen and the artist’s estate.
