Anton Parsons' well-crafted objects frequently display ambiguous and enigmatic qualities, generating a number of possible meanings for the viewer. This work has a tongue-in-cheek sense of monumentality combined with a witty approach to issues of language and interpretation. Its endlessly climbing and falling elements, and precarious impression of balance, are regular themes in Parsons' work.
Parsons graduated from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in 1991 with a degree in sculpture. He has exhibited widely in New Zealand and has completed two major public commissions in Wellington and Auckland. He currently lives in Auckland.
