The seductive qualities of painting are hard at work in this idyllic treasure. We are introduced to the scene through a landscape that is essentially in shadow but for spotted highlights. The sun descends through trees and illuminates specific areas that the artist uses to convey narrative interest and build compositional structure. The town in the distance appears to be the destination for these travellers.
