About the artist
For the exhibition 'Nature's Own Voice' 6 February - August 2009 this work was displayed with the following label:
Bill Sutton was a prolific plein-air watercolourist, completing many outdoor preliminary studies for his large, studio finished oil paintings, such as the Te TihiO Kahukura and Sky series. This study has been rapidly executed outdoors and it is clear that the artist has attempted to capture a fleeting moment as the unique cloud forms billow across the sky. Details in the landscape have been kept minimal with Sutton focusing instead on the overall atmospheric effects, particularly emphasising the cloud formations.
