Conor Clarke’s kāhu (swamp harrier) fixes the viewer with a focused, unyielding stare, challenging any who would intrude into its territory. Tirohanga Manu, the title of this work, can translate as ‘bird’s view’ or ‘bird’s perspective’, implying seeing as a bird sees, taking a bird’s-eye view or, metaphorically, finding expansive ways of seeing and understanding.
