In the exhibition 'Bird land: Te Kāhui Manu' this item was exhibited with three others, borrowed from Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand, with this label:

Eileen Mayo depicts four small native birds of forest and scrubland—mātuhituhi (bush wren), mōhua (yellowhead), hihi (stitchbird) and piopio—through close attention to movement and posture across different layers of vegetation. The hihi persists in a small number of reintroduced populations, and the mōhua remains present in scattered strongholds despite its decline following forest loss. The mātuhituhi survives only in highly restricted remnants, while the piopio is now extinct, last reliably reported in the early 1900s.
