Top Box Art

31 January –
28 February 1972

This exhibition was organised by Illinois State University through the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery.

Twenty–seven American artists were sent identically prepared 18"x 22" canvases and could paint whatever they wanted. The paintings were predictably diverse ranging from hard edged abstracts to a completely blank canvas by N.E. Thing .Co. It was felt that most of the artists did not take the exercise seriously.

Artists included Harold Gregor, Les Levine, Edward Ruscha and Frieda Vredaparis.
