This exhibition was devoted to the work of three generations of the Richmond and Atkinson families which, united by friendship and marriage, had been prominent in public and artistic life in New Zealand since the 1850s.
The exhibition was arranged by the Hocken Library, Dunedin and toured under the auspices of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council. It comprised 95 paintings by James Crowe Richmond (1822-1898), Dorothy Kate Richmond (1861-1935) and Esmond Hurworth Atkinson (1888-1941).
James Richmond was the foremost water-colourist in early New Zealand and Kate Richmond was distinguished in both watercolours and oils.
Admission was free.
