The first exhibition of Thomas Rowlandson's satirical drawings from 1757 to 1827 was held at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery in 1959. This was the second exhibition of his work shown through the Mackelvie Trust, Auckland Art Gallery. Thirteen of the Gallery's own Rowlandson's works were exhibited as well as works from Dunedin and Wellington.
