This retrospective exhibition was a tribute to Stewart Maclennan (1903-1973), Director of the National Art Gallery, Wellington. It was shown together with the winning watercolours in the National Bank Watercolour Competition over the previous seven years. Three of these seven were by Maclennan.
Not only were watercolours represented, but also oil paintings, prints, drawings and photographs of paper sculpture.
The Robert McDougall Gallery purchased Autumn from this exhibition for the permanent collection.
3,450 people visited the exhibition.
