During 1982 the Robert McDougall Art Gallery will have been established fifty years. An exhibition of important works from the public collection will be held in recognition of this event.
To mark the Golden Jubilee of the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, a series of four exhibitions will be held throughout 1982 outlining the life of the Gallery from the beginning to the present. At least fifty per cent of the Gallery's exhibition space will be given over to the installtion of important works from the public collection.The periods which the four exhibitions will focus on are:
Beginnings: 1932
The 1930s and 1940s: Criticism and Controversy
The Gallery during 1950s and 1960s: Consolidation
The 1970s: Changes in Direction
The installations will also include photographs with extended explanatory labels showing the major exhibitions that were held.
A publication on the history of the Gallery and a complete catalogue of the collection will also be published in recognition of this event. Bulletin issues numbers 20 - 23 will also feature special articles focusing on highlights of the Gallery's history.
