The Alexander Turnbull Library, through the Auckland Art Gallery, was the main contributor to this exhibition of 77 etchings.
Prior to this, exhibitions of Piranesi's work had been shown in Italy and America and this New Zealand exhibition, shown on a less extensive scale, was to make this master's work more widely known.
The exhibition was described as being well displayed and impressive but not well supported. Publicity went to all the members of the Institute of Architects, was generally well advertised and was featured on Canterbury Roundabout, a local radio programme.
Admission was one shilling for adults and the catalogue cost two shillings.
