Nineteenth Century New Zealand Photographs

This exhibition is now closed

This was the second photographic exhibition held at the
Robert McDougall Art Gallery. There were 94 photographs, 50 of which were originals. Although not a comprehensive survey, it was still a good pictorial record of life during the colonial period of New Zealand's settlement.

The exhibition created a tremendous amount of interest with over 9,000 visitors attending and for the first time, a waiting list was created for the catalogue. CHTV3 also filmed a short documentary on the photographs.

The National Film Unit production Another Time was screened in conjunction with the exhibition and was seen by 1300.

The film The Te Kooti Trail was also screened at the Canterbury Museum.
