National Bank Art Workshop 1974

1 December –
21 December 1974

Nineteen prints, sketches and paintings completed by 18 senior secondary school students during a 9 day residential art workshop were on show.

The workshop was sponsored and organised by the National Bank in conjunction with the Department of Education. It brought 18 talented young artists to wellington to work with 3 well known specialists in their particular field of visual arts – Brian Carmody, Selwyn Wilson and Laurie Lord. The students moved freely from painting or drawing to printmaking and pottery.

Although the intention of the course was not to produce anything for exhibition, it was thought the high standard of the completed work deserved a wider audience.

Several of the students went on to attend full time art schools in New Zealand or studied graphic and industrial design at Design school.
