Works such as Tomorrow will be the same but not as this is and As there is a constant flow of light we are born into the pure land saw Colin McCahon demonstrating new ways to respond to the New Zealand landscape.Lineage uses contemporary works from the collection to examine some of the directions artists, inspired by McCahon's innovations, developed when examining this theme.

The exhibition features paintings employing a predominantly expressionist or abstract expressionist style. It explores the emotive layers of reference embodied by this technique and its sensuous use of materials.
