John Gully Watercolours

John Gully emigrated from England in 1860 and his serious painting dates from his arrival in New Zealand. Gully followed the tradition of English romantic watercolours using quiet colours and almost photographic representation.

Over 30 of his watercolours were brought to Christchurch by the Auckland City Art Gallery and the exhibition toured Gisborne, Napier, Palmerston North and Wanganui.
