The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board sponsored an art competition for Japanese children aged 11 or 12. This age group was chosen as it felt they would be able to travel to New Zealand as their prize.
100 exhibits were selected from 7255 entries, chosen by Japanese art educational authorities. There were four equal first prize winners.
It was a very well presented and successful show with more than 4000 visitors attending, including many school groups.
