This was the first exhibition of Israeli art to be shown in New Zealand. It was arranged by the National Gallery and was originally shown in Australia as part of the celebrations on the occasion of Israel's Tenth Anniversary.
Oils. watercolours, woodcuts and gouache were represented in 79 works by the following 27 contemporary artists - Issac Amitai, Margot Lange Ascheim, Mordechai Avniel, Ruth Bamburger, Audrey Bergner, Jacob Eisenscher, Nahum Gutman, Dan Hoffner, Shimshon Holzman, Grete Krakauer-Wolf, Rudolf Lehmann, Mordechai Levanon, Arieh Lubin, Yonah Mach, Zvi Mairovich, Kaete Ephraim Marcus, Chaim Nahor, Samuel Ovadiahu, Jacob Pins, Leo Roth, Zvi Shorr, Miron Sima, Johanan Simon, Jacob Steinhardt, Amiram Tamari and Shlomo Vandenberg.
Half of the works were exhibited mounted but unframed.
