This exhibition has been organised by the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery with the assistance of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council. This exhibition is on loan to New Zealand from the Lyman Allyn Museum, New London, Connecticut, United States of America. The exhibition will consist of some forty original drawings, watercolours, gouaches and pastels by the following artists:
N Poussin, L. De la Hire, E. le Sueur, C. Le Brun, J.B. Chardin, F. Boucher, School of F. Boucher, M.A. Challe, School of H. Robert, L. Gauffier, H. Rigaud, A. Saint Aubin, J.L. Clerisseau, H. Fragonard, J. Fouquet, J.A.D. Ingres, E. Delacroix, A. Decamps, C. Guys, T. Rousseau, J.F. Millet, V. Hugo, E. Boudin, A. Joron, E. Degas, A. Sisley, P. Sérusier, A. Renoir, P. Cézanne, B.B. de Monvel, G. Rouault, M. de Vlaminck, R. Dufy and M. Utrillo.
The exhibition will cover a wide range of French painting and should prove to be an important collection for New Zealand.
