Eskimo Carvings and Prints

18 December 1964 –
8 January 1965

Through the office of the High Commissioner for Canada, 85 stone carvings of men, animals, birds and fish and 30 prints on stone and sealskins were brought to New Zealand. The prints came from Cape Dorset, a small village on the south western shore of Baffin Island in the Northwest Territories, where a craft centre was established by the Canadian Department of Northern Affairs and National Resources. It had been set up to develop local art and craft, Cape Dorset having had a long-established reputation as a centre of artistic excellence.

Admission was free.
