David Low Cartoons

This exhibition is now closed

This exhibition, borrowed from London collections and sponsored by the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, was part of the Pan Pacific Arts Festival held in Auckland and Christchurch.

New Zealand born Sir David Low (1891-1963) had associations with local publications early in his career and went on to become one of the best known and highly paid cartoonists in Britain. He was the creator of Colonel Blimp, an enduring political commentator from 1934 to 1956.

Of 90 drawings from 1927 to 1949, four were borrowed from Christchurch Boys' High School, where Low was a former student.
