Chinese Ceramics and Oriental Bronzes

1979

The ceramics on display represented examples from the Chinese Sung and Yauan periods, Ming and Kitchen Ming, Annamese (Vietnam) and Sawankhalok (Thailand).

The bronzes, about which not much was known, included small figures of Buddha, torch bearers and other figures from everyday life, as well as objects in common use such as buckles. These were collected by Dorothy and Mervyn Jarvis and were successfully put up for sale during the exhibition for what now seem like very reasonable prices.

In addition a selection of oriental ceramics from the permanent collection of the Robert McDougall Art Gallery was on display.
