Abstract watercolours by 14 Americans

The Museum of Modern Art, New York selected the works of 14 artists for this exhibition which came to New Zealand through the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council.

American artists in this exhibition took up the various watercolour media, including gouache, combinations of watercolour and oil and more especially with the newly developed plastic paints. Artists included James Brooks, Giorgio Cavallon, Sam Francis, Paul Jenkins and Matsumi Kanemitsu.

Fewer than 800 attended the exhibition and the director did not consider it a success.
