Arran Poole: Dresden 2007 [7:10] and Interim Camp 2008 [7:38]

Arran Poole is a UK-born sound artist and composer whose current work explores the possibilities of a little-known musical instrument called the bow chime. A combination of sculpture and musical instrument, the bow chime is capable of producing deep resonant tones, subsonic rumbles and harsh metallic drones – creating absorbing meditative journeys or works of sheer noise and cacophony.

The two pieces featured here include Dresden, a live bow chime performance by Poole alongside veteran artist Bob Rutman in Coventry Cathedral, and Interim Camp, a more experimental work which combines the bow chime's distinctive resonances with layers of electronic tone, noise and other non-musical sounds.
