Painter and printmaker Mike Southern has lived in Christchurch for nearly three years after emigrating from Portland, Oregon. After receiving arts training in printmaking in 1995, he has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. His paintings and etchings are based on his time spent in the landscape, although recently figurative elements have begun to emerge: 'Balancing the human and landscape elements is my current struggle,' states the artist.
