The Embassy of Japan in New Zealand presents this screening as part of the Japanese Film Festival’s fascinating 2020 season. Beside the basin of the Takatsu River in Shimane Prefecture families are living in an area burdened by depopulation as they carry on the tradition of Kagura, the Shinto music and dance, said to be the roots of Kabuki drama. 

Manabu Saito operates a farm on a mountain and worries his son Tatsuya has been making a habit of skipping Kagura practice. Then Manabu learns his alma mater elementary school will be closed.
