Bill Hammond: Playing the Drums
Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū
Join curator Peter Vangioni and colleague Gwynneth Porter for a floortalk of our new exhibition Bill Hammond: Playing the Drums.
Both avid followers of Hammond's work (and lovers of percussion instruments), they will discuss the Lyttelton-based artist’s distinctive work – from his early views of chaotic interiors to his famous paintings of bird/human hybrids that explore the fragility of the natural environment. Vangioni has compiled a list of the myriad songs referred to in Hammond's painting, and Porter is thinking about his work as montage – both angles will make good springboards for discussion. Come and join in on the conversation.
