The luminous and varied surface of this work by Luise Fong is animated by abstracted forms evoking the body, space and the natural world. A reduced colour palette encourages contemplation of the various shapes that combine visual elements found in cosmology and biology.
Search, in title and appearance, suggests a quest for knowledge. Fong seems to suggest that experiencing a painting is more about the act of inquiry than precise conclusions.
Fong was born in Malaysia in 1964 and moved to New Zealand as a child. She graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland in 1989. She has exhibited widely and her work is represented in major public collections throughout the country.
