The Rock and Horizon by Blair Hughes-Stanton highlight his fluid style. His technical ability can be seen in how he has arranged his compositions in a complex way and used separate blocks for each colour. Hughes-Stanton studied at the Leon Underwood School of Painting and Sculpture between 1923 and 1925. It was here that he met Gertrude Hermes, whom he married in 1926. Together they worked at the Gregynog Press in 1930. The couple separated in 1931. Throughout his career Hughes-Stanton also taught printmaking at various art institutions, including the Central School of Art and Design in London.
